As we drove through the Rocky Mountain National Park there were a number of short walks just off the road to take a look at various vistas. We did a number of them and as we got to the higher altitudes it really started getting chilly. We Enjoyed the walks as we got to see some interesting animals. The views were pretty special too.
We spent a bit of time climbing the rocks for a slightly better view point amongst the trees. We then moved on to another lookout which was even higher up the mountain. We started to feel the altitude and even more so the wind. Despite it being summer, it was certainly cold up there.
We managed to get into Rocky Mountain National Park without too much of a wait, although it was getting quite busy. On the way there we saw a female elk walking along the road which was quite exciting. We ended up seeing quite a few ore in the park too. We drove up to one of the first lookouts and it was quite spectacular. It was a great start to our visit.
Auntie Vicky took us to a park near their house which was quite spectacular. The girls played with Vicky's boys and had a good time. They all worked up an appetite so the pizza did not last for long. It was good too.
The first day we were excited to catch up with Auntie Vicky who we haven't seen for almost 20 years! It was great to see her and she showed us around the pedestrian areas of Boulder which was really nice. We quite liked the feel of Boulder, especially with the backdrop of the towering mountains behind the city.
We were flying to Denver on United and our flight was cancelled but we were not notified. So we arrived for our flight at the Sacramento airport and they ended up sending us to San Francisco airport in a taxi and some food vouchers. We then caught a late night flight arriving into Denver past midnight. We were all feeling a bit wild especially since we didn't get to our hotel until 1:30am. Sure makes us miss Qantas and Singapore Airlines, or pretty much any non US carrier. At least we got there in the end.
