We took a trip to Bojnický zámok where we did a tour of the inside of the well preserved castle. We did this same tour when MV was tiny so it was no surprise that the tour has changed a fair amount. The castle still looks good and preservation efforts of all the castle artefacts and woodwork has been very good. We remembered a few of the rooms which we had walked through previously, like the game parlour. Other rooms were new to the tour and interesting to see.
We decided to go have a look at some of the smaller villages around. TV took everyone to look at one of the properties which used to belong to his family. Afterwards we drove on and found a little playground near a stream. The girls had a bit of a play while we ate some cherries from the trees. Pretty soon dark clouds rolled in and we all got into the car as it started raining. Once we got home though, the sky absolutely let loose and it bucketed. Hail also made an appearance to make the storm very wild and dense. We couldn't even see the church just past the next set of houses.
We thought it would be pretty cool if there were any geocaches in the woods, and we were not disappointed. We found two of them, one hiding in a cool growth on a tree. The other was hidden inside the entrance to a small cave which outlaws used to use to hide in. It was really fun finding both, especially since they used the natural landscape so well.
We decided to wander through the woods a little bit to see if we could find something interesting. Besides the toilet in the woods we managed to find some really nice rocks covered in moss. We didn't see any animals besides birds and squirrels this time. Nonetheless it was very pleasant walking through the woods.
We really enjoyed walking around Lake Dubnik and finding new places. We went to the other side without the beach area and it was really nice to walk through the leafy forest. We walked from one end of the lake to the other and ended up finding a playground near a little restaurant.
We had a relaxed day spending time with family and playing with cats. We needed it and enjoyed the slower pace.
We made our way through the upper sections of the castle to take in the views of the city and countryside below. Once we made through all of the fortifications we walked down through the forest and back into the old town. The girls cooled down in the fountain and got meet the Vodnik, a spirit living in the well. On the way home we saw a place where tank enthusiasts gathered for an event and drove their various classic military vehicles around. It was such an interesting gathering but unfortunately people were mostly packing up and heading home at the end of the weekend.
