National Museum of Australia

On the final day of our trip we stopped in to see the National Museum of Australia and the Feared and Revered exhibit. The exhibit was excellent as it presented how female deities were depicted throughout different cultures across the ages. It was really interesting how some were feared for their destructiveness while others were loved for their nurturing and healing qualities. We were all quite captivated by the exhibit and came out with not only favourite pieces, but also much more aware with an appreciation for women's importance throughout history.

Visiting Uncle Carlos and Damian

We were on the way to visit Uncle Carlos and Uncle Damian when KT found the park which was dedicated to the first Slovak immigrant to Australia. It was on the way so we stopped in to take a look and a quick photograph or two. It was so good to catch up with our friends, and their apartment was fantastic. It has such a great view and it is so well situated. They took us to a fantastic park where the adults had a charcuterie board picnic and the kids played in a castle with real tunnels. We ended the day with a nice dinner and conversation before we headed home.

Triple threat

The girls wanted to get their photographs taken at the same photos spots even if they were a bit silly. They all had slightly different takes on each photo though.

The National Dinosaur Museum

Our next stop was the National Dinosaur Museum where the irony of having a petrol station next door was not lost on us. Inside the museum it was a little more like exhibits and a few actual skeletons. Didn't matter, it was still worth going. The girls enjoyed looking for clues and getting answers to questions to collect a prize at the end. The outdoor dinosaur garden was fun too with everyone enjoying the great weather.

Pub lunch between attractions

There was a very convenient pub located equal distance between the gardens and the next attraction we were going to. It was actually quite nice and the food ended up being really nice too. We've in fact been very pleasantly surprised with how good the food was in all the Canberra establishments we patronised.

More from Cockington Green Gardens

After walking through the main part of the garden which was very much English focused, we moved to the international area. Before we did though, we got a luck at two things that are very English, rail roads and football hooligans. The international area had famous or semi-famous sites from countries from around the world including a Bojnice Castle in Slovakia which we have visited several times. Before we went to get lunch we stopped in the kids play area where the girls played with the pigs and the miniature play houses.

Visiting Cockington Green Gardens

SV was really keen for us to visit Cockington Green Gardens and we didn't quite understand why. We arrived but one of the kids (can you tell which one) was quite grumpy on arrival. Once inside though everyone's attitude change for the better. It was really quite interesting and we all really enjoyed all of the details while feeling a bit like Gulliver. The girls also offered to take a photograph of KT and TV sitting on the bench across the lake. EV had a different idea but eventually allowed it to happen. After that we made our way to the mini railway to get a lay of the (mini) land.
