Aphrodite's Beach

We stopped at Aphrodite's Beach which is said to be where Aphrodite emerged from the sea according to Greek mythology. There were quite a few people enjoying climbing on the rocks and pretending to be Aphrodite as did we. We thought it was a nice rocky beach with wonderfully clear water. It was a little bit of hard work to get into the water across all of the rocks, but once in it was fantastic. Some of us enjoyed snorkelling with quite a few fish and different plants growing right around the rocks. There were a couple of caves too, but with the waves surging through them we thought it better not to go inside. We instead enjoyed the water and view out into the blue yonder.

Prolimnos Beach

We headed back towards Pissouri but we wanted to stop and go for a swim in the ocean. We stopped at Prolimnos Beach because it had beautiful white cliffs that we wanted to see. The beach itself was very rocky and fairly steep, so not great for swimming but it was very pretty.

More mosaics and ruins

The history at Paphos is fantastic with several civilizations making their home here. The Romans certainly left a mark with their mosaics and palaces. We thought it was quite extraordinary to be able to walk along mosaic floors set down by Romans all those years ago. It was so great to walk through this wonderful archaeological site but the heat made us stop and find some shade. Luckily there was a rest building with some vending machines and a water tap to get some drinks. We then continued on to look at other parts of the site including the lighthouse and an old fortification. On the way back to the car we stopped in for another cold drink in the form of bubble teas which were ok, not great but we still enjoyed them if nothing else than the novelty.

Archaeological Site of Nea Paphos

We visited a site TV remembered from when he was here back in the 1980s, particularly the mosaics. It was so amazing to see the fantastically detailed mosaics here were still so well preserved. This site still has some massive mosaics which are even more impressive then he remembered. It's no surprise they made such a lasting impression. We really enjoyed looking at all of the details of various myths depicted and the Roman gods central to the stories. Despite the heat we wanted to see all of the areas so as not to miss out.

Paphos Castle

We went inside the castle to see what it was like and to learn a bit about it. It was pretty nice but quite small. The girls really enjoyed trying to see whether they could jump between the two platforms. The view from the top was also quite good and well worth it.

Paphos harbour and foreshore

After spending several days relaxing by the pool we thought we would head to Paphos to explore some of the culture. We walked along the foreshore towards Paphos Castle. The foreshore had a really nice atmosphere and while the harbour wasn't exactly picturesque, it was really nice to walk along it. We enjoyed seeing some of the huge yachts but not as much as the statue of Aphrodite climbing out of the sea.
