Last night in Cambodia

Cambodia was such a lovely place to visit, but alas we had to go back to reality and head home. We had a great time and met some wonderful people on this trip. We thoroughly enjoyed the history and seeing such wonderful places.

SV cruising on sydney harbour with friends on a perfect sunny day.

In the pool

SV as usual took advantage of the pool while TV and KT took advantage of the swim up bar for their free drinks. SV and TV stopped to smell the frangiapani on the way back to the hotel villa.

Our Cambodian hotels

We stayed at two different hotels during our trip so that the majority of the time we could stay in the city and then have a couple of relaxing days at a resort to relax. Here are some of the photographs from the two places both of which were very nice.

Leaving Angkor Thom and our guides

After three wonderful days of exploring some of the Angkor temples we finally had to say good bye to our wonderful guide Mr Em Somuch and our driver Mr Sophal who were very nice in showing our way around the wonderful place. As we were leaving the city of Angkor Thom we took several photographs together to remember them before sharing a lovely meal of Cambodian sandwiches. Thank you both again.

Beautiful snowscape at sunset

SV was in an all white outfit today and as we went to the park she basked in the last rays of the day.

The Bayon and Bapuon temples

On our final day at the temples we visited two interesting temples, The Bayon with it's 54 towers each of which has four carved faces on it and Bapuon temple with it's massive reclining Buddha and it's colourful history. Both temples were amazing, The Bayon with it's very intricate and ornate carvings and decorations was a sight to behold. Bapuon was disassembled by the French piece by piece before the Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia and was subsequently rebuilt after the regimes downfall without the detailed plans for where each of the stones belonged.

Preah Khan and dinner

These photographs show Preah Khan which was also being partially reclaimed by the jungle. It was another fabulous temple and there were hardly any tourists there. A bit of maintenance was being done while some of the kids of the ladies working ran around playing. There are also some photographs from our dinner where we ate at a restaurant that had a wooden hut like thing constructed above the bar where we ate sitting down.

The latest book available

The latest book is available for download to the right or at the following link: SV 6 to 9 months

The photograph is from the airport at Siem Reap, SV is showing how we all felt about leaving, a bit sad really.

Second day of temples

For our second day of temples Mr Em Somuch took us to several more temples including Phum Srah Srang, Banteay Srei and Preah Khan. The first temple was interesting and quite simple compared to some of the others in the area, but it was still really interesting. Banteay Srei was a relatively small temple but it had lots of intricate art carved into it's pink sandstone, and had a number of guardian statues.
Here are some of the photographs.
