Backstage at Taronga

Recently our friend Yael was working at Taronga Zoo in Sydney as a keeper in the reptile area. She and her co-workers gave us a tour of the usually off-limits areas of the zoo. Of course that didn't stop KT from enjoying herself even before we got into the park. Our friend Naomi (Yael's sister) also joined us and had fun with the koala before being bitten by a snake, on purpose though. We also got to see one of the smallest chameleons do his thing before getting in on the action with a python. Naomi also got to hold the python although it is questionable as to who is holding whom. The lions were having non of it though as it was sprinkling and they didn't want to get wet. KT was chillin with the turtles and TV held a blue tounge lizard who also makes a tasty beer in the Hunter Valley. The pygmi hippo was pregnant in this photo, could you tell? She gave birth about two weeks later, which is a very rare thing to happen in captivity. The red pandas were out for a stroll when we saw them and made it difficult to get a good photo, they just wouldn't stay still. The snow leopard on the other hand hardly moved from his perch as he watched what was going on with
the mountain goats. The giraffe was excited because it just got fed so it was moving about. Finally the tiger was very alert and enjoyed watching us as much as we enjoyed watching him. We would like to thank Yael and Naomi for taking us along and showing us the zoo.
