Day 6.75, On the way home

After a quick dinner and a shower at Leah's hotel we were heading home. We weren't quite ready to go, but it was time. Our flight left at 22:45 so we were hoping that SV would have a sleep before or at least at the airport. You can see from the photographs that she did no such thing. At least she did sit for a little while watching a show or two before getting the last of her energy out. As we walked to the aeroplane she fell asleep and then slept until we got off the plane. Pretty much a perfect flight for her.

Day 6.5, Fish pedicure and the beach

After getting some last minute things done we headed into Kuta, which is the touristy part of Bali. Yos wanted to get a fish pedicure because she had never done it before so we found one that had nice healthy looking fish and clean water. KT decided to join her since it had been quite a while, and she wasn't disappointed with the result. Leah and Liz merely watched with amusement. SV was interested at first but then she found her own game of jumping while TV tried to get her in mid leap.

After the fish we walked to the beach, but we chanced on a Wendy's where we got a frostie which was really good on a hot day. Once on the beach SV ran around and was a bit of a tourist attraction of her own with two groups asking to take photos with her, and who knows how many got sneaky pictures. She took it in stride and even offered smiles.

Day 6, Leaving the villa

After leaving our wonderful villa we still had a full day in Bali. We certainly made the most of it. Leah had hired a hotel one night and she very graciously let us put our stuff there until our flight in the evening. The hotel was quite funny, it was Hawaii themed with a fake palm tree in the room, but not sure about the arrowana, a South American fish, in big fish tanks upstairs. One thing that was very good was there was a nice little local restaurant right next door where we had lunch, followed by a bit of souvenir shopping at a massive shop. SV had a good time playing in the shop.

Day 5.5, Ulawatu Temple and the monkeys

In the evening we went to Ulawatu Temple because TV wanted to photograph the sunset and see monkeys and fire dancers. At first things were going quite well with monkeys and people respecting their distance, but then things took a bit of a turn. TV cut off KT's head in photographs, and then things just went downhill. One of the monkeys stole SV's bunny from TV's backpack and then ran away with it. Then he started tearing into it in the bushes hoping to get a treat. After that minor victory the monkeys got bolder and nastier, trying to get food from us.

We managed to leave without getting hurt but it was a bit unnerving. The sunset was quite beautiful though and we took a couple of family photographs. We then met up with everyone else before heading to dinner at a restaurant that sat right on the beach.

Day 5, the morning shopping

We have a number of friends who are now having babies, so we took advantage of being in Bali and did a bit of shopping. SV found her favourite dinosaur (Brachiosaurus) as a talking toy, but he was too big to buy this time. We did manage to get some great gifts and SV even made some new friends. Eventually we headed back to the villa though to soak in the pool a bit.

Day 4, the turtle incident

Day 4 was a very relaxing day where the most strenuous activity was to drive down to the beach and swim. In the morning we had another leissurely start with a snack in bed and then a swim. SV was in fact so relaxed that she managed to have her nap in a hammock which was certainly a new thing.

After lunch we managed to get to the beach where SV saw a turtle toy. There was a lady renting it for less than a dollar so we got it for her, but she refused to get into it. She only wanted to hold it and carry it around. It was quite funny, but she seemed to like it. There were a number of vendors selling charcoal grilled corn which was absolutely delicious, but it didn't ruin our appetite for dinner. Since this was the only night that we were all going to be there we took a couple of group shots with our delicious dinner prepared by the in house chef.
