As we were on our way back to Istanbul, KT found another great archaeological site on our way. It was the former city of Metropolis which has been inhabited over the last 5000 years by various peoples. It sits on a crossroads of several ancient and current trade routes. Interestingly we were the only visitors to the site despite it being free to enter with plenty of parking. We didn't mind as the site is well preserved and excavated. It didn't have the same grandeur of Efes, but nonetheless it was interesting to see. Some of the mosaics here were also remarkably well preserved as were some of the seats in the amphitheatre.
