Visiting the Brezulas

On the way back from Budapest we stopped in to see the Brezulas. This was Uncle Lubo's Mum and brother who live outside of Bratislava. It was a great visit as only TV had met them before and that was a long time ago. The girls enjoyed playing with the toys and dogs, but enjoyed looking at the photo albums as much if not more. It was so interesting to see Drahos who is very similar to Uncle Lubo. We really enjoyed ourselves and the tasty snack they prepared for us.

First day of the year

It was sadly also our last day in Budapest. It was just as well because the weather started to turn stormy and wet. We went back up to the castle to look at a particular souvenir shop and to see a few more things without the huge crowds of the day before. There was some confusion over the signs along the way but we did manage to find what we were looking for. In fact we even found Nagymama's restaurant which incidentally specialised in one of her favourite dishes. We didn't eat there though but a homey style restaurant serving tasty Hungarian dishes.

Welcoming 2019

New Year's Eve in Budapest was a bit different to what we are used to. In Sydney we are a bit spoiled with the amazing show put on every year. Budapest was a fun experience but different, less organised and more about the street parties. Of course having these different experiences is exactly why we travel so it was no surprise that we made the most of it by watching the street fireworks and watching all the activity everywhere. The girls were surprised, but actually enjoyed themselves despite it being past midnight.

Dinner and New Year

When in Budapest you have to eat, Sushi! Weird, but actually absolutely delicious. Nagymama doesn't get much sushi in Slovakia and we all love it, so we though why not. It was a good choice and right across the street from a place called Sophie's which is SV's friend's name. After dinner the short people went to bed to sleep a bit before we all got up and dressed to head out for the fireworks on the river. It was fun, but the fireworks were certainly not as spectacular or well organised as in Sydney. There were lots of people out and about and the atmosphere was really good though.Happy (belated) New Year!

Budapest good bye

After an eventful day we came home to have a relaxed lunch with everyone. The kids enjoyed playing really well together while the adults relaxed and talked. After we all wound down we headed back out again to explore the city a bit more before we had to say good bye to our friends as they headed out to Switzerland.

Bit more Budapest exploring

This time we walked over to Matthias Church to take in the view and to see what we could see. Turns out there was a fair bit to see beside the church. Mostly birds,  especially the large hawk.The kids had a good time, well almost all of them anyway.
