Enoshima Cave

We went to see the dragon in his cave lair on Enoshima Island. The cave had all sorts of budhas and other statues and we got to carry candle lanterns to take a look at them. We also went along a suspended walkway to the other cave where we came face to face with the dragon. Walking back under the fairy lights was a nice fun bonus.

Walking to an Enoshima beach

From the temple we took some really steep stairs down to the beach. It turned out to be less of a beach in this case and more like tide pool scrambling and rock beach. The girls really enjoyed hopping around and looking for critters in the tide pools.

More from Enoshima

We made our way to the top of the island via stairs and a couple of key escalators. Once at the top we made sure to take in the view before and after we had a tasty lunch. We then made our way across a narrow part of the island and on to the next temple dedicated to the dragon of the island. All along the way we had a lovely conversation with Auntie Janet who the kids felt instantly comfortable with despite having only met her once before almost 6 years ago.

Visiting Enoshima Island

Our friend Auntie Janet invited us to catch up at a popular Japanese island near Tokyo called Enoshima Island. There is a popular myth about a sea dragon living there. We took the train out and walked across the bridge to the island where we got quite a good view of Mount Fuji in the distance. The island was a nice place with lots of various things to do and was mostly catering to Japanese tourists. We enjoyed looking at some of the shops, gardens and temples.

Shibuya scramble crossing and more

Leaving Harajuku we met some interesting characters and the girls were quite keen to take photographs with them. We headed to the world famous scramble crossing in Shibuya with it's multitude of people crossing in every which direction under the neon signs. It was a bit overwhelming but we managed to find a vantage point from which we could watch everyone walking through. We then had a nice dinner of convenience store snacks like onigiri and little sandwiches back at our house.

Meiji Jingu Temple

We walked to the famous Meiji Jingu Temple inside the park and were pleasently surprised at how nice it was and not terribly busy. The girls wrote message on the little wooden boards and we walked around the ground before heading back through the forrested park.
