Melbourne New Years 09 Part 2

The movie begins our New Years from our hotel room. We then move down to the square where we watch the fireworks, some of which went over our heads. They were super close which was amazing. After the fireworks we listened to a free Ska concert which was very upbeat, a perfect way to start the new year.

The next day we we went to the botanical gardens which were heavily secured with barbered wire fence reminiscent of concentration camps, apparently they didn't want the plants to escape. KT stopped for a healthy bamboo snack, after which we explored the rest of the gardens. We then walked through some of the city taking in the local spots and interesting characters. Eventually we made it to the Victoria Markets where we hid from the quick shower that passed over the city. From there we went to the Melbourne Museum which was located next to the old style exhibition hall with the fountain. In the museum itself we saw several interesting things including a frog hiding in his habitat and a stuffed animal version of the Australian crest. The museum is very large and full of very good exhibits ranging from fauna to Melbourne's history, and the best part is that as students we had free admission. After the museum we took a break and sat on the grass and relaxed. That pretty much sums up our trip, keep watching for more updates. In case some of you missed the hint in the previous post we will be in the US in May.
