Markets near the fair

Next to the fair there were markets selling all sorts of crafts, food and flowers. KT was pretty exited and the girls got a treat as well. Unfortunately for TV the german beer hause next to the fair was closed. So sad.

Fairs happen

Sometimes fairs happen to good people. One day you're just walking through the entertainment quarter and boom! A fair pops out of nowhere. The little people of course were excited, and got to go on three rides. The swings apparently were the best although the slides were almost as good. The jumping obstacle course was not good because they didn't get very much time on it.

Van Gogh Live exhibit

We went to go see the Van Gogh Live exhibit albeit with a certain small person missing. It was just as well because she would not have enjoyed it for long. SV and MV were quite interested but we had to read some of the descriptions and quotes to them as they came and went quite quickly some times. The exhibit was centred around the audio and video experience with only a few things outside of that. That was a bit of a let down, but it was still worth it. Both SV and MV were quite interested in the paintings and some of his different styles throughout his career. They examined the brush strokes and use of colours, so it seems they are both learning in art class. SV was also interested in the mental illness aspects of Van Gogh's life so we explained as much as we could. We all had a really nice time and enjoyed spending the time together.

Chickens and the beach

We stopped in to see the different chickens to see what they were up to. Mostly scratching around it turns out. The kids really wanted to touch the water so we found a little beach where they could. It had an interesting view of some navy ships. The trouble with going all the way down to the water is that we then had to walk all the way back up the steps to the car. Nobody minded at all though. Gummy bears helped.

Lunch with a turkey friend

We stopped for a spot of lunch which we brought with us. We were all quite hungry after a nice bushwalk. We clearly weren't the only ones who got hungry in the fresh air. A rather brazzen bush turkey fancied our lunch as well. We kept him around as he did keep the other turkeys away. After lunch we continued walking or crawling along the trail as became necessary. Just before the end of the trails we walked through the coal loading tunnels which was quite interesting.

More from Balls Head Reserve

We acquired a local guide who introduced us to the trail. We were quite happy to follow him until the bird brain ran off into the bush through scrub. Oh well, we still made it to some lookouts with spectacular views of the harbour. The girls were feeling pretty silly and pulled faces. They genuinely seemed to be enjoying the walk and finding new things.
