Exercise and art

In the morning we took the girls for a walk and they of course found something to climb on. It was good though since they got a bit of exercise. After getting back home, MV took a nap which gave SV an opportunity to work on some of her art. This time she was cutting out her own stickers and using water to make the paper sticky, she applied her new stickers into a notebook.

Finishing up in Roma

In the morning we finished packing up and headed to the airport. We were all in good spirits after a great trip. Both SV and MV really bonded with Nagymama and seemed to like spending time with her, getting to know her better still.

Roman dinner antics

Unfortunately the Roman portion of our holiday was drawing to a close, but we decided to head out for one more dinner and ice cream. Although there was some weird and some might say inappropriate behaviour beforehand. At least no one can deny that we are all related. The joyful mood continued after dinner to get some amazing crispy calamari and less crispy ice cream. After the kids went to bed the party continued into the evening as we were heading our separate ways for a few days.

The Colosseo

The big ticket sight in Rome is of course the Colosseo. Unfortunately there is also a massive line to see it. With Nagymama and the kids we decided to pay a bit of a premium to skip waiting in the heat and only wait for 15 minutes. It was money well spent. SV was super interested in the history and archaeology, although the heat did take a toll on her like it did the rest of us. MV managed to have a short nap after a quick historical feed. Afterwards we went to a local restaurant to cool down before heading back to the hotel.

Foro Romano

We headed out relatively early and caught the bus to Piazza Venezia. KT and Nagymama stopped in for a delicious coffee before we went to look at the Altare della Patria which contains the remains of the unknown soldier. It's an interesting monument although possibly a bit over the top. Afterwards we headed behind to take in the Foro Romano which is a real sight to see. The history alone is awe inspiring. We were all thoroughly impressed.

Trastevere dinner

For dinner we chose a random restaurant which ended up being quite nice. The food was good and we had fun being a bit silly. After dinner we had a gellato to celebrate another great day. On the way to find a taxi we stumbled on to another great church which we almost had to ourselves. We then got a good taxi driver who took us to the top of the hill on the way home so we could see Rome laid out before us.

Trastevere walk

The Trastevere neighbourhood of Rome is an absolute pleasure to get lost in. We walked around quite a bit of it and despite its touristy nature we really enjoyed our evening stroll. The churches are nice and quiet and we found more than a few quaint little streets with no other tourists.
