Poll Answer

So the answer for last weeks question has multiple answers. We have been on television for several reasons. KT has been meeting with dignitaries and she had her own public access show. TV was at a bus accident and got caught on tape. We were also both shown taking part in the Breast Cancer walk here in Sydney. So that's the rub.

Fight Night

This past Friday night we went to our friend Matt's boxing match. It was an exhibition contest, so no betting. This was the first time either of us has gone to an event like this in person and it was exciting. The nice thing about it was that it was outside, which made for a good setting but the cold made us a little bit uncomfortable. No worries though, as the night progressed the matches got better until the last match of the night reached a pinnacle with Matt's bout. Matt fought bravely and with some great punches. Unfortunately the judges gave the fight to his opponent in a close decision. To make the evening more fun, and to help us get over the unfair result there were fireworks, most likely from an unrelated event. Then we went out to celebrate and warm up after the fight.
A special thank you goes out to Adam for the great photos.

Breast Cancer Star Walk

Last night we took part in the Dove Star Walk for the Cure. We saw all manner of pink creature from fairy, ballerina, angels, to pirates and cowboys. Everyone was wearing pink gear of some sort, with the pink bra being very prominent. Over 10,000 people showed up to help raise money for breast cancer research. It was very beautiful to walk around the famous sights in Sydney lit up at night, and then to be greeted with refreshments throughout the walk and at the end. We believe that it was a stroke of genius to begin the event by giving everyone a delicious ice cream bar and glow stick. Overall a good time for a good cause. Oh yeah, and we made it on the tele again.

K-Rudd on Postnatal!

Katie went to work today expecting the worst after going out the night before and not sleeping much before her shift. But truly, this is a charmed life she lives, for who should come by to visit the ward she works on but Kevin Rudd, or K-Rudd as they like to call him. Quite possibly Australia's next Prime Minister, Mr. Rudd came by to inspect the quality of Australia's public hospitals. He interviewed Katie on the differences between the Austrailan and American health care model and even shook her hand. Her mother would have been proud, because she remembered all her TV experience from Kidworks and Insight San Juan High and was very poised and articulate for the cameras. She even made the news! The link is to a web site that has the video of the story. Go to the link, then click on "Abbot defends hospital funding levels (ABC News)" and you will see her at 25 sec and again at 2 minutes and 11 sec. The link for the video is right under the photo of Mr. Rudd. We will check the papers tomorrow for more exposure. Here is the link. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/10/05/2051790.htm?section=justin

Sydney Festivals

Last weekend we decided to go to downtown to see what was going on, and we happened onto some interesting festivals. Within a three block area there were three festivals happening. There was the Chinese moon festival, a Korean festival, and a Brazilian festival. We haven't figured out what the last two were about, but the Chinese festival was celebrating a full moon. The Korean festival had some delicious food including Kimchee, although the kimchee could have been a bit spicier. The Brazilian festival had some tasty food, but the entertainment was really good. The video is a small sample, but there were other things that were interesting too. There was a demonstration of the Brazilian fighting style whose name I forgot, as well as a performance/dance along that were entertaining.

Cape Tribulation Part 5: Flora

Que Flores!

The much talked about and seldom seen Umbrella Palm followed by the parking lot decoration. Who can forget the carnivorous plants?

Here are some wonderful examples of the flowers we came across on this trip.

All of these colors are true to life, even that green one.

This is the end of our Cape Tribulation Vacation mini series. Stay tuned for our next outing here in Sydney.
